Who we are:
Ticker is a next-generation digital motor insurer using data science and connected car data (also known as telematics or black box insurance) to provide insurance products for novice, van, older and low-mileage drivers.
The motor insurance landscape is set for a major shift and the battleground will be won or lost in the next five years. It will all come down to pricing sophistication and the most efficient use of machine learning and artificial intelligence across the whole value chain.
The business includes a first-class executive team with a proven track-record in building successful insurtechs and running some the largest insurers in the UK.
What the role is:
As one of our Business Analysts, you’ll be working closely with the whole team at Ticker to help make changes happen as the business grows rapidly.
You’ll be part of changes across: our policy system, claims, our website, our app, telematics technology, third-party system integrations, business processes and operational procedures. As this role sits at the heart of the business, you’ll need to be interested in and knowledgeable about everything going on in our world.
We’re continuing to accelerate the pace of change here at Ticker, with plenty of plans to grow and expand; there are plenty of systems and processes to scale up and lots of new products to build.
What you’ll be doing with your days:
- Identifying and describing problems by working closely with product owners, subject matter experts and business stakeholders
- Collaborating with squads to agree the best solutions to complex problems faced by Ticker
- Immersing yourself in the details of how things work, to not only understand the gap between now and future states but also WHY change is necessary
- You’ll know the Ticker ecosystem inside-out, acting as a go-to person for those tricky ‘how does this work?’ questions
- You’ll work closely with product owners and stakeholders to simplify complex topics, making sure nothing is lost in translation
- You’ll work with stakeholders to identify dependencies, obstacles and blockers that could prevent the team from reach their goals
- Ensuring that all acceptance criteria, testability and delivery approach is understood, and highlighting or mitigating any risks or conflicts by working as one with your squad
- Participating in regular squad events such as daily standups, sprint planning, sprint reviews and retros
- You’ll keep up with all the moving parts across the delivery cycle; working directly with product owners, delivery managers and all relevant people to pivot and impact-assess across a moving backlog of prioritised items
- You’ll think on your feet, looking at all perspectives to guide users and developers alike in the direction that’s needed to solve the problem
- You’ll support the design and estimation across an array of varied work from app features to major system migrations to loss prevention
- You won’t shy away from asking ‘why’ and working with the product owner to understand the value of the initiatives you’re tasked with
Skills you’ll need:
- You’ll have a way with people: the ability to extract and make sense of information from different sources and transform it into understandable problem statements that can be used to develop workable solutions
- Excellent people skills, transforming information gathered from multiple sources into requirements and solutions
- Strong communication skills, simplifying the complex for easy explanation
- You’ll be able to build and maintain strong effective working relationships quickly
- A keenness to become a Ticker specialist whatever your previous background, although knowledge of private motor insurance would be ideal
- While you are detail-oriented, you’ll have the ability to step back to see the full picture and think holistically
- Confidence in asking questions, and, looking past the first answer, you’ll have the motivation to find out WHY
- Some experience of iterative/agile delivery
- You’ll be comfortable with and enjoy complexity
- Knowledge of modern technologies is an advantage
- Experience is important, but we count your new ideas and creativity as just as valuable
