Risk Underwriter

Always remote-first

Who we are:

Ticker is a next-generation digital motor insurer using data science and connected car data (also known as telematics or black box insurance) to provide insurance products for novice, van, older and low-mileage drivers.

The motor insurance landscape is set for a major shift and the battleground will be won or lost in the next five years. It will all come down to pricing sophistication and the most efficient use of machine learning and artificial intelligence across the whole value chain.

The business includes a first-class executive team with a proven track-record in building successful insurtechs and running some the largest insurers in the UK.

What the role is:

As a Risk Underwriter, you’ll be responsible for Ticker’s operational risk management processes, including contacting customers where necessary. You’ll also have delegated authority to proactively manage our Underwriting, Telematics and Anti-Fraud objectives.

  • Authenticating documentation from customers, including proof of No Claims Discount and any other documentation requested by Ticker’s Underwriting and Fraud teams
  • Reviewing and validating MI and taking suitable steps to reduce risk and protect Ticker’s loss ratio
  • Making customer contact by live chat, email or phone when required
  • Reporting to Ticker’s Head of Risk Underwriting to improve processes and discuss recommendations for product and service enhancement
  • Maintaining strong relationships with our Customer and Operations teams to enrich the quality of internal referrals, promoting a ‘right first time’ culture
  • Liaising with our third-party claims provider to assist with underwriting referral investigations, when applicable
  • Communicating with other third-party providers and insurers, where needed
  • Identifying any reportable complaints and escalating to the relevant team in line with Ticker’s complaints handling procedure
  • Complying with regulatory and industry guidance
  • Ensuring all principles outlined by the Financial Conduct Authority are adhered to and any changes to legislation are followed accordingly
  • Regularly completing your own CPD to maintain an adequate level
